Darawish

February 18, 2010

Art Circle, in Hamra, is showing the work of the artist Raouf Rifai, a collection entitled “Darawish.”  These portraits of simple people were well received by students, and all were excited to sketch a picture of their favorite piece.  We were fortunate to be able to ask the artist specific questions about his art.  Several students asked why some of the portraits were missing ears or eyes.  Rifai explain that this meant that these people were closed off to the surrounding world – they choose to not listen to others or see the reality of the surrounding world.

Thanks for exposing me to Rifai, the work is powerful. I can see how your kids could instantly understand and engage in his work.
